Now There Are Four--Newborn Session, Longmont, CO
One of my all time favorite things about being a photographer, is being invited into my clients’ homes for portrait sessions! It just lights me up. I really enjoy being in the space that most defines people and getting an authentic glimpse into their life as a family. This past weekend I was so fortunate to visit my new friends, Krista and Alex. Just a few weeks ago, their little family of three welcomed a new baby...and now there are four.
Sweet Wesley Ray made his entrance into the world on June 14th. On the day I visited, he was just shy of 2 weeks old. I was instantly in love with his perfect little face and his relaxed disposition. He was so alert but very calm...he would open one eye at a time, have a look around and then doze off for a few minutes at a time. I think he knew I was relying on him to do his cutest tricks because I got so many expressive shots of this little guy. And even though he was the main attraction, his big sis was also the star of the show!
Big sister Kinsley was absolutely ready for her little brother. She holds him on her lap while she chills on the couch and gently strokes his head while humming little tunes. I was so impressed with her natural gentleness and attentiveness to him. I kept asking her mama, “she’s only two?” When I arrived, she immediately invited me to sit with her while finishing up a movie. She started telling me all about her baby brother and how she had become a big sister because “mommy had to get a cut and the baby comed out and then I was a big sister”... obviously I found her to be the brightest two year old I’ve ever met!! Ha! Oh, and did I mention, this was the first time we met? Totally amazing little girl. I just sat with her a while and really enjoyed the company.
When it was time to start shooting, I was immediately struck by how happy Krista and Alex are together. They were so relaxed and laughed the entire time. I hardly had to say anything at all because they were so drawn together that it felt really natural. They sat closely on the couch and admired this new little miracle and miss Kinsley crawled right up to snuggle too. And I got the best seat in the house...watching them do their thing while capturing these precious images that I know they’ll treasure for years to come. I know I am blessed beyond measure to witness such love firsthand and it’s never lost on me how important this job is.
