Apple Orchard Family Session | Longmont, CO
I recently had a wonderful experience where I re-discovered an old location I used to go to for portrait sessions. I hadn’t been there in a long time so I decided to try it again for this family photo session. Years ago I would come here but to be entirely honest, I struggled to make it work. I could never seem to get the lighting or the backdrop quite right. But on this early morning in July, we walked into an apple orchard and made some magic!
This little apple orchard has grown over the years and I was so surprised to see it had matured quite a lot since my last visit. The early morning sun peeked through the leaves and created a warm glow all around. The low branches were full of almost ripe apples that the children eagerly picked. They took bites to discover that they were still a bit tart but fun to eat nonetheless. I enjoyed chasing them around with my camera. Mom and day helped them reach the higher branches and delighted in watching their children play with such freedom.
Ashley (mom) found me on a local Facebook Group and reached out to schedule family portraits. I love meeting new people so it was really fun to have some fresh faces to photograph. When I work with a new family, I love to just observe how they interact with each other. It’s fun for me to figure out how to get them to show me their natural smiles. It’s like a little game I play...what makes this little one laugh? How can I bring out the personality of a more shy and reserved child? The youngest member of the family gave me a lot to work with this time! He was shy, curious, slow to warm to me at first but by the end, I was getting the full show! He was on fire! His sweet smile and expressive features were so much fun to photograph that I kinda went a little crazy!
Their daughter was also a whole lot of fun and didn’t hesitate at all to show me her sass! A natural at posing for the camera and very playful. She was very charismatic and befriended me almost instantly...telling me all about school and her favorite American Girl Doll. We had a blast climbing trees, tasting apples, coaxing her baby brother into some shots. She was a huge help in that department for sure!
Family sessions are always so much fun and I get so much satisfaction out of showing my clients how beautiful their family is, inside and out! Thinking of setting up a family portrait session? Now is the time to schedule! October is already booking up :)
